Nicholas Green Award |
Applications must be postmarked by January 3, 2009. The Tennessee Association for the Gifted, in affiliation with the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC), is pleased to have the opportunity to honor an outstanding Tennessee student as the Nicholas Green Distinguished Student for 2008-2009. This national award includes an NAGC Certificate of Excellence, a $500 U.S. Savings Bond, and recognition at the TAG Conference in Memphis in the fall of 2009. 2008-2009 Nicholas Green Award information, application, and release form are available for download in: PDF Format - (Get Acrobat Reader) Nomination Procedure1. TAG will accept self-nominations as well as nominations from parents, teachers, students, and community and civic groups. 2. Nominations for the 2008-2009 school year must be postmarked by January 3, 2009. Eligibility Criteria1. Students must be in either grade 3, 4, 5, or 6 during the 2008-2009 school year. 2. Outstanding student accomplishment must be demonstrated in one or more of the following areas: academic achievement, leadership, or visual or performing arts. Submissions to TAGAll nomination packets must be complete upon submission and include the following: 1. A composition written by the student nominee (maximum 750 words). Compositions should describe (a) the activity or interest area for which the student is being nominated, (b) how the student became interested/involved in the activity, (c) what impact the activity has had on the student and on others, and (d) how the student’s future plans and goals have been affected by this activity or interest area. 2. A completed NAGC-TAG Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Award Application Form, 2008-2009 (see download). 3. At least one letter of recommendation from someone other than a nominee's family member, explaining why the student nominee is deserving of the award, what sets him/her apart from other students, and how the nominee is impacting others. 4. A signed NAGC-TAG Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Award Release Form, 2008-2009(see download) completed by a parent or guardian granting NAGC and TAG permission to use the nominee's name, composition, and photo for publicity should (s)he be selected. 5. A photo (no photocopies - school photo preferable) in a sealed envelope (to be used in award publicity in the event the student is selected for the award). 6. A self-addressed, stamped postcard that will be used to acknowledge receipt of the packet. 7. A self-addressed, stamped envelope that will be used to notify nominees of Tennessee's winner.
